Paris Hilton: I'm not a trust fund kid - I work hard

She was the original queen of reality TV, joint with Nicole Richie, with whom she starred in The Simple Life, long before anyone was keeping up with the Kardashians.

Like Kim, heiress Paris Hilton regularly dominated gossip magazines and is famous enough to get into any nightclub, bar or restaurant she wanted to.

But there’s much more to partying socialite Paris than her penchant for pink, tiny pet dogs and her catchphrase “That’s hot”.

In fact it’s her life as a jet-setting businesswoman that Paris says makes her feel entirely blessed.

She is of course the great grand-daughter of Conrad Hilton, the founder of the hotel chain, but she has built up her own business empire, including a $2 billion fragrance division.

As well as her fragrance line, which comprises 18 scents, there’s her fashion label, her books, her music (she’s DJing at Ibiza nightclub Amnesia this summer and has just launched her singing career).

‘I’m a workaholic’

“I had a certain persona on The Simple Life,” admits Paris, who has launched a sparkly anniversary edition fragrance to mark her 10 years in the business.

“But I was young and I’ve worked hard for everything.

“We weren’t spoilt as kids. My parents really instilled in us that you need to be independent.

“Some people think I’m just a trust fund kid, but I’ve worked hard for everything. I’m not a dumb blonde - I wouldn’t have got this far if I was.”

‘Kim Kardashian always had a great work ethic like me’

It’s the same determination that is not too dissimilar to Kim Kardashian. The pair grew up together and Kanye’s wife was once Paris’s stylist.

So what makes some celebrities successfully rise from reality TV star to a marketable and lucrative brand in their own right?

“I’m very determined in life. Being successful really fulfils me,” she tells us from LA.

“I work hard. I’m a good person with a good heart. That’s why I’ve been in this business for so long, and that’s why my product lines do so well.”

‘In 10 years, I want to be married with kids, but to keep working.’

The 34-year-old has had somewhat of a chequered love life, previously dating Good Charlotte rocker Benji Madden, who is now married to Cameron Diaz, as well as being linked to Australian model Jordan Barrett after splitting from boyfriend River Viiperi.

Although her goals for the next decade are simple - domestic bliss and professional success with her own line of hotels around the world.

Paris Hilton's 10 year anniversary perfume

‘Creating a fragrance was a dream come true’.

She adds: “When I was 16 and I moved to New York, a perfume was the first thing that I wanted to do. I’ve just always loved perfumes.

“Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to do big things in life. I never thought it would be on this level but it makes me so proud.”

'My perfume is perfect for Liverpool girls - the packaging is so blinged-out'

It’s Paris’s limited edition fragrance, embellished with diamond-inspired crystals, that will bring seasoned traveller Paris to Liverpool One as she promotes her special anniversary scent.

“I’m very proud to have been in this fragrance industry for 10 years now and to be launching my 18th perfume,” she says.

“Paris Hilton for Women was the obvious choice as it was my first fragrance when I was 23 and will always be special to me. The packaging is so beautiful. I’ve been carrying it round like a glow stick. It’s like an accessory!”

Paris will be appearing at Superdrug in Liverpool One from 4.30pm to 6.30pm on Wednesday, May 13.
