Monica Lewinsky will forever be known as one of the precursors for Bill Clinton's impeachment during his time as POTUS, but the social activist does not want that one mistake to define HER life!
Lewinsky recently was onstage for a TED Talk this past Thursday in Vancouver and her speech dealt with the public humiliation she faced and still faces today for that incident.

Lewinsky started off the speech by asking the audience, "Who didn't make a mistake at 22?" A powerful reminder of just how young she was when she became the talk of the nation. And the talk never died down. She said:
"Not a day goes by that I am not reminded of my mistake, and I regret that mistake deeply… Overnight, I went from being a completely private figure to a publicly humiliated one worldwide."
And while cyber bullying is common nowadays, there wasn't even a name for it back in the height of the Lewinsky scandal. She said:
"This was not something that happened with regularity back then in 1998. And by ‘this,' I mean the stealing of people's private words, actions, conversations or photos and then making them public. Public without consent, public without context and public without compassion."
However Lewinsky offered some hope to anyone currently enduring any kind of public shaming, and she pointed to herself as an example of overcoming that public humiliation. She said:
"Anyone who is suffering from shame and public humiliation needs to know one thing: you can survive it. I know it's hard. It may not be painless, quick or easy, but you can insist on a different ending to your story."
We can't even imagine the scope of bullying she went through for so long.
We're glad to see how inspiring she is nowadays and we hope this talk motivated anyone else in the world dealing with public humiliation. If Monica Lewinsky could withstand that, it stands to reason anyone may be able to!
